Identity Card and Library Account :
All members of John Cabot University must have a JCU identity card. These cards may be picked up at Student Services (hours: Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
The barcode printed on the back of the card enables users to access their personal library account, where they can store bibiographic lists, check their loans, and post requests for items to be put on hold.
Book Orders :
Faculty can suggest items to be purchased for their courses. Library orders are entered in the on-line catalog and can be searched by title or general keyword.
The following status types will appear in the Copy/Holding information:
-
On order: the book was ordered but has not yet arrived
-
Newly acquired: the book was received and it is still being processed. At this stage it is already possible to request it by using the personal account in the catalog.
-
In cataloging: the book is being cataloged.
-
Checked in: the book is ready to be checked out.
Reserves :
Faculty can request that items be placed on reserve for their courses.
The Library reserve policy is to acquire all of the recommended readings included in the syllabi as soon as they are submitted to the University. Additional readings can always be suggested, either for the reserves or for developing the collections.
At the beginning of the semester the items will be entered into the Reserve collection.
The Reserve collection should contain only books that must be used on the Library premises during the day. Students can take them out only for an overnight loan. On request, the Library can arrange a short loan for the books that students need to bring home.
The collection can also include electronic documents from the Library electronic resources.
Loans :
All faculty members are entitled to check out up to 30 books for a period of one semester. The loan is renewable, but the Library may need to recall the items for a short time if other patrons require them.
Loan duration for media items (VHS, DVD, etc.) is 14 days.
Interlibrary Loans :
Interlibrary loans and document delivery services are available to all JCU faculty, staff and students. However, due to budget restrictions, the Library can only partially contribute to related charges. For the Academic Year 2007, on a trial basis, the Library will cover the costs for the provision of non-returnable documents only. Each Faculty member is entitled to a maximum of 3 documents per year.
Costs for the provision of returnable items will be paid by the requester.
